Hi, I'm Kama

I know the wild ride of going through changes and transitions in life, from becoming a parent, getting divorced, and changing career paths. I understand the messiness of expectations, disappointments, joys, and hopes that come with making your way through your days, experiences, and relationships.

Throughout my own life, I have experienced many ends, beginnings, and challenging transitions. My many roles and experiences are all part of what informs my work as a therapist and I work from a place of humility and an understanding that your lived experience is not mine, and that you are the expert on you. If you'd like to learn a bit more about  who I am and my own journey, scroll down below.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist and hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I am a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists Ontario (CRPO), the Ontario Society of Registered Psychotherapists (OSRP) and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).

Re-inventor of self.

I have re-invented myself many times in my life - both personally and professionally - sometimes out of necessity and sometimes out of desire. Because of this, I know what it's like to face endings, beginnings, and all the bumps along the way.

I have a Journalism degree and worked in media and communications for 15 years because I know the incredible power of words and sharing stories. I then changed paths and earned a Health Sciences degree in Midwifery - weird change, right? Alas, parenting two babies did not jive with on-call life. So, I started a prenatal education and postpartum care business so I could empower parents through knowledge and an affirmation of their inner strength and wisdom. At the same time, I ran a social and education network for new mothers, connecting them through shared experience, building a support system, and running classes to share community resources.

All of my roles have led me to exactly where I'm meant to be, using my diverse education and experience to support my clients with compassion and understanding

Welcome to my practice.

Land Acknowledgement

I live and work in Toronto, the traditional territories that include the Wendat, Anishinabek Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nations, and the Metis Nation. This territory is within the lands covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, a treaty between the Anishinaabe, Mississaugas and Haudenosaunee to share and care for the land around the Great Lakes. We all eat from this one dish with only one spoon. I commit to this treaty in a spirit of peace and respect. I am grateful to live and work on this land. I recognize that I am the descendant of settlers here and that I have greatly benefitted from a colonial culture that has overseen the genocide, systemic oppression, and exploitation of this land's Indigenous People.

I acknowledge and am committed to understanding the immense privileges that I have as a white-passing cisgender woman. I will work continuously to learn about the ways these unearned advantages have shaped who I am, and to unlearn how these privileges have conditioned me to see the world and our society.
